KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT PRACTICE
IS LIKE WALKING ON A DARK STREET WITH AN
UNLIGHTED TORCH IN YOUR HAND

If you are not going to light the torch and see your way, then what is the purpose of carrying it? So also with knowledge, if one knows what is right, yet commits sin, then the purpose of knowledge is defeated and one will have to answer to Allah Azza wa Jal on the Day when all will be called to account. Remaining ignorant is not an option. One must learn and act on it.

It is from this connection with Allah(SWT) that emerges the cardinal principle in Islam of accountability to Allah(SWT) who is All-Seeing, All- Knowing in every respect. That is why there is a huge importance not only on the acquisition of knowledge but on practicing it, because the purpose of knowing is to act on what one knows.

In the Journey of Life, It’s only the first step that you are left alone to take. From then on the doors open as you come to them. They all have automatic openers. They only open when you come to them. Not before. So you have to keep walking. If you stop and look you'll only see closed doors. But if you have faith and walk onwards as soon as you come to the door it opens. Faith is to know that the door will open and to keep walking on the path to Allah's(SWT) pleasure because He owns us and the Universe. Muslims know all about automatic door openers, see?

Two kinds of knowledge that are available to humankind

Trial & Error

Knowledge that we gain by exploration, experimentation & testing, deductive reasoning, logical argument and all other such means.

Divine Knowledge

Knowledge gained from listening to the voice of the Creator when He speaks to us, which we call the Revelation. The last of these Revelations is the Qur’an, which Allah azza wa jal revealed to His last and final Messenger, Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him and all other Messengers who came before him).

THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN THE TWO BODIES OF KNOWLEDGE MENTIONED ABOVE
IS THAT THE SECOND ONE BEGINS WHERE THE FIRST ONE ENDS

Islam is the religion of knowledge. The first aayah of the Qur’aan to be revealed enjoined reading which is the key to knowledge. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists).

He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).

Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous.

Who has taught (the writing) by the pen.

He has taught man that which he knew not

[al-‘Alaq 96:1-5]

In Islam, beneficial knowledge comes before action; there can be no action without knowledge.
